About the Author
Shauna C. Anderson Young, Ph.D. is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Biology at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Dr. Anderson Young served as the Program Director of Medical Laboratory Science from its inception until her retirement. While at Brigham Young University, Dr. Anderson Young served as Department Chair of the Microbiology Department, Director of the Biology Office, and Associate Dean in the College of Life Sciences. She received the University Abraham O. Smoot Citizenship Award. Dr. Anderson Young has published many articles, chapters, and books. The subjects range from Clinical Chemistry and Hematology to histories of early settlements and genealogy. The Atlas of Hematology was first published in 1997 and has evolved to the third edition of Anderson’s Atlas of Hematology. The atlas has been published in Japanese, Russian, Portuguese, and Chinese. Dr. Anderson Young served sixteen years in various positions for the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences including President of the Board of Directors. She also conducted numerous site visits and workshops. An active member in her professional organization, the American Society for Medical Technology, Dr. Anderson Young was the editor of Body of Knowledge: Clinical Laboratory Science Content Outline in 1998, 2004, and 2014. She also taught many workshops and served as Vice Chair and Chair of the Hematology Scientific Assembly. From that organization, she received the Sherwood Medical Achievement Award in Biochemistry, the President Appreciation Award, and three times the prestigious Robin H. Mendelson Memorial Award.
